The University of St Andrews sub aqua club offers training to those looking to advance their sub aqua training but the club also caters for beginners.

We are an enthusiastic, inclusive, and diverse group of divers who love our sport.

As a proud BSAC club, we provide all levels of training to our members. Most of our diving takes place here in Scotland, with fantastic local sites on the east coast, inland sites, and exciting wrecks on the west coast. We regularly run single-day and weekend trips to these sites, as well as an annual week-long Appin trip during the Spring break. If cold water diving isn’t for you, the club also organises a trip abroad to a warm water destination each year.

We collaborate with experienced BSAC instructors to provide safe and high-quality training for our members. We regularly run BSAC Ocean Diver and Sports Diver courses, which gives beginner and inexperienced divers excellent opportunities to learn and develop their skills. We don’t hesitate to arrange higher level courses (e.g. Dive Leader) and do so on a demand basis. All our sheltered water training takes place in the local swimming pool and open water sessions are conducted at well-known Scottish dive sites.

As a BSAC affiliated club, we benefit from the ability for any of our members to attend regionally organised courses (e.g. Instructor Foundation Course (IFC)). There really are limitless possibilities for training.

We want you to get involved in instructing – if you are already a qualified diving instructor, we value all experience, and if not, sign up to an IFC when we advertise! It’s a short course requiring BSAC Sports Diver and is an excellent way to get into instructing. We can’t wait for you to join our instructor team!
From the start of Semester One, our experienced and talented committee safely and professionally run a variety of activities to get you started in the club:
- “Give it a go” dives in a pool for students keen on learning how to dive
- Drysuit inductions for those not yet experienced in such type of diving
- The first west coast dive trip of the year!
Once we are all settled in, we keep up the momentum and continue to provide our members with:
- Training for those who loved their try dive and want to complete their first course
- Regular dive trips around Scotland
- Trip to the Farne Islands to dive with seals!
After we have returned from Christmas vacation, we get straight back into diving and will continue to run regular trips including our, not to be missed, Spring break Appin trip, which again takes place on the west coast of Scotland. This excellent opportunity to get involved in the club features up to 9 days of great diving. Our successful and fun year will then be concluded with the warm water trip after exams. Previously we have been to Egypt, Thailand, and the Canaries!

The University hosts a Sports Fayre at the beginning of each academic year during Orientation Week, giving prospective members the opportunity to talk to club members and sign up to ‘Give It A Go’ sessions.
